First ever search engine on internet

The first name which strikes our mind in name of search engine is "GOOGLE", but you will be surprised to know that it was not the first search engine on internetYet, before Google, Yahoo search, Bing, or even Ask Jeeves and Alta Vista, it was Archie

Archie is a tool for indexing FTP archives, allowing people to find specific files. It is considered to be the first Internet search engine

The original implementation was written in 1990 by Alan Emtage and J. Peter Deutsch, then postgraduate students at McGill University in Montreal and Bill Heelan, who studied at Concordia University in Montreal and worked at McGill University at the same time

Difference b/w ANDROID ICS and JELLYBEAN

Difference b/w ANDROID ICS and JELLYBEAN

Ice Cream Sandwich is Android 4.0, Jelly Bean is the latest version, Android 4.1.

Ice Cream Sandwich came on the scene towards the end of last year and it was a huge revamp from its predecessor Gingerbread, it had an entirely new style set and looked great.

Jelly Bean however is more of a refinement than a visual overhaul like ICS was.The core interface remains unchanged with five home screens, shortcuts and widgets. These can be added in the same way on ICS and Jelly Bean, however in Jelly Bean, the widgets are more intelligent, moving around to accommodate you, rather than sitting static once positioned.

The notifications bar has also been refined in Jelly Bean. This is a bar at the top of the screen on all Android phones which can be pulled down to display notifications like missed calls and email alerts. In Jelly Bean, an expanded view is available for these notifications whereas in Ice Cream Sandwich, there's just a small fixed view, showing less information.

Google has also tweaked the gallery slightly in Jelly Bean. Now, pinching all the way out of your pictures will take you to a scrolling marquee of your images
, which is very easy to browse through.

The final key difference between the versions of Android is something altogether less tangible and it's called Project Butter. Project Butter ensures a 60 frame per second steady frame rate, translating to a much smoother user experience across the UI. It makes touch input feel instantly more responsive and it means Android now competes visually with iOS and Windows Phone.

So there you have it, the battle of the confectionaries is complete and you should feel informed as to how Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich stacks up against Android 4.1, Jelly Bean.

SOME MORE FACT:

Better performance

Prior to Jelly Bean, Android lacks smoothness and responsiveness when compared with iPhone and high-end Windows Phone to some extent. Project Butter is the Google’s effort to get rid of such performance issues and make Jelly Bean more faster and smoother. Jelly Bean’s “Project Butter” helps in improving graphics rendering at 60 frames per second, for which it extends vsync timing across all drawing and animation within the Android Framework.

Jelly Bean also adds triple buffering in the graphics pipeline, with which it reduces touch latency. Interesting fact is that it predicts your next touch at the time of the screen refresh, which ensures more reactive and uniform touch response and while, you touch after periods of inactivity, it boosts CPU input to max at the next touch event to ensure minimal or no latency.

Smarter Predictive Keyboard and Offline Text-To-Speech

Jelly Bean’s keyboard looks quite similar to the Ice Cream Sandwich, but the dictionaries are now more accurate and relevant. It learn your typing from time to time and show the words before you type them using bigram prediction and correction. The version has also an enhanced offline text-to-speech feature, making voice typing on Android more better, without a data connection. The stock keyboard is available in over 20 languages with a dedicated selection key that help in switching languages quickly.

Re-sizable Widgets

Google has made a great improvement to Customizable home screen in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. While with Android 4.0 ICS, you have to struggle with your widget to fit in the screen, but with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, widgets are easier to re-size to fit your home screen. The screen automatically adopts placement and re-sizing widgets according to your finger’s movement. And widgets can be removed very easily through edit mode or by swiping on and off the home screen.

Expandable Notifications
The notification bar has also been enhanced in the Jelly Bean. This is a bar at the top of the screen which can be pulled down to display the notifications like missed calls and email alerts. In Jelly Bean, an expanded view is available for these notifications while in Ice Cream Sandwich, there is only a small fixed view, showing less information.

Offline Maps
Now in Jelly bean, you can save the map to a storage device and access it offline. To do that, you need to select ‘make available offline’ and select a rectangular area on the map that you want to cache in memory.

Jelly Bean is the faster and smoother version of Ice Cream Sandwich and it surely comes as a big, big competitor to iPhone and Windows phones. Jelly Bean comes with plenty of new features that makes it a clear winner over Ice Cream Sandwich. For those who are using Samsung galaxy note, S2 and S3, you can use OTA (Over-The-Air) or KIES to update your phone to the Android 4.1 Jelly bean. Make sure your WIFI is on and your battery is at least 50%. If you can’t update via KIES or OTA, then you’ll need to download the firmware and use ODIN to flash.

The highest level of water resistance in a smartphone

Smart, sleek & durable

No one knows how to best pack durability into a beautiful design like Sony. The slim 7.9 mm body, with its reflective glass surface, looks and feels slick, but Xperia Z is crafted to be water-resistant, dust-resistant and tough enough to handle whatever life has planned.

  Water-resistant

How can we be certain? In order to
get the high IP55 & IP57 rating, we
submerge Xperia Z under water for 30 minutes
 – and make sure it’s good as new when
it comes out. It’s also resistant to water jets!

Tough as metal

How solid does a precision engineered

Durable glass

The durable tempered glass on
front and back is a lot stronger
than conventional glass. And

front

and back, Xperia Z is anything but

fragile.

Dust-resistant

Since we can’t take every Android smartphone
outdoors, we bring the dust tests to our
labs. Before we label Xperia Z dust-resistant,
we hang it in a dust-test chamber and make
 sure its operation is unaffected

OmniBalance design

The design is focused on creating balance

Android Vs Chrome

Google Replaces Android Boss Andy Rubin With Chrome’s Sundar Pichai

(Andy Rubin)

The man who is synonymous with Android has been replaced by the guy who is synonymous with Chrome.

In a shakeup Google CEO Larry Page announced Wednesday, Andy Rubin — who has led Android from the start and helped make it the most widely used mobile OS — is moving on to … well, that isn’t clear. Taking his place is Sundar Pichai, the senior vice president in charge of the Chrome browser and OS. Pichai will continue running all things Chrome as well. Although it remains to be seen just what Rubin will be doing, it appears he’s staying at Google.

“Having exceeded even the crazy ambitious goals we dreamed of for Android — and with a really strong leadership team in place — Andy’s decided it’s time to hand over the reins and start a new chapter at Google,” Page wrote in his announcement. “Andy, more moonshots please!”

One possibility is Rubin will go to Google X, the skunkworks division specifically charged with making crazy, far-out concepts like autonomous vehicles and Google Glass reality. Page’s mentioning moonshots hints at such a move, and it makes sense to have Rubin lead Google’s charge toward the next great computing platform — wearable technology.

Glass is the company’s first foray into wearables, and if anyone has proven he can build a computing platform, it’s Rubin. He co-founded Android Inc. in 2003, after selling Danger Inc. (the company that invented the T-Mobile Sidekick smartphone) to Microsoft. He took Android to Google in 2004 and sold it on backing his vision for mobile computing. He’s been with Google ever since, presiding over Android’s rise to the top of the worldwide mobile OS pecking order. Page noted in today’s announcement that Android has been activated on more than 750 million devices worldwide and more than 25 billion apps have been downloaded from Google Play.

Rubin has also overseen the development of Google’s Nexus phones and tablets into a full-fledged consumer brand with the release of last year’s Nexus 4 built by LG, Nexus 7 from Asus and Nexus 10 by Samsung. Matias Duarte has worked under Rubin, overseeing Android hardware and software design, after having worked with him at Danger Inc.

(Sundar Pichai)

P
ichai is a rising star at Google. Chrome has become the most widely used web browser, and Chrome OS is on the rise. He also delivered Google’s first self-made hardware, the gorgeous Chromebook Pixel, product into retail, and, thanks to Samsung’s $250 Chromebook, Chrome OS laptops have started selling in big numbers. Since the latest Samsung Chromebook made its debut, it has sold out on Google Play and in Best Buy stores. It’s also been the best-selling laptop on Amazon for more than 140 days.

In his new role at Google, Pichai is being asked to continue that success while also taking on Rubin’s role at Android. This isn’t a small task. For the last few years, Google has pushed two different strategies — Android and Chrome OS — and each is vying to define our computing future. When asked last month if he ever saw Android and Chrome OS converging to become one software platform, Pichai said that the two are the execution of two different philosophies on personal computing.

We have two viewpoints here and we are doing both,” he said. “This may enable the applications to even look the same across platforms and users don’t even care about the underlying technology.”

Pichai now runs both, and both platforms run on touchscreen devices. If Google wants to bring Android and Chrome OS into greater alignment, there’s no person better equipped to do this than Pichai — aside from Rubin, of course.
